THE SLOTTED SPOON
Absinthe a once popular late 1800’s early 1900’s drink in France a favorite by many artists including Vincent Van Gogh & Henri Toulouse-Latrec. Modern day method to drink this anise flavored emerald green colored beverage is to set a slotted spoon on top of the glass with a sugar cube placed on top that is lit on fire to melt the cube. Traditionally the cube was dissolved slowly by cold water dripping from a fountain. Happy hour was dubbed "The Green Hour". They use to say that after drinking many glasses of the green liquor you would receive a visit from "La Fee Verte” (The Green Fairy) who was considered the “Muse” of creatives.
